Bought a piece of curly maple one day at the lumber yard a year or so ago, with no intentions to use it, it was beautiful and cheap, and spoke to me as I walked past it, as they say. Anyways back to it, took that piece and some scrape cherry from another project and put this little number together. Dowel and glue construction, all radius work done with rasps, planes and sandpaper. Hand rubbed Danish Oil finish, and 5 coats of 1/3 cut water based poly on the box, Minwax Spray on Lacquer on the Burl. Wife made constant comments on it while in construction, I lied too her and told her it was for my dad, she was surprised, along with what was inside it on christmas morning. Got a few pieces of that burl left, keep watch you’ll be seeing a matching jewerly box next…

nicely done. The dowels are an interesting touch. Hope to see its mates.

Wonderful job, I like the way the top just peeks out on the corners for you to see a new detail. Thanks for picking up this wood and keeping it for this project
