My First Sculpture, "Open Heart"

For my wife’s birthday. My first attempt at a sculpture. I’m pleased with the result and more importantly so is my wife!

Wood: Ovangkol (Shedua, Amazique, Amazoue, Mozambique)

Rough cut on a band saw. Removed some material with a Forstner bit on a drill press. Shaped with a file. Hand sanded, a lot. Finished with teak oil.

I didn’t get a picture of the piece of wood before I started, but included a couple of pictures of a similar piece. It was made with a cut-off from a table I’m working on.

Very nice. I like it a lot. It always amazes me what’s in a slab of wood.
