Did you use paint of dye to make the wood look like a flag? :)

The stripes and field were ripped to about 1/4” thickness and edge glued. Then I painted them. I made a stencil from a file folder to paint in the stars. Once the paint was dry, I used a glaze to darken the whole thing and to highlight the grain structure and the joints in the stripes. Once the glaze was dry, I added a clear coat of acrylic finish (water-borne) to seal down the glaze. It really looks a bit more dark than in the photo as the flash washed out some of the highlighting. The frame is stained and acrylic coated.

For reference, the whole this is about 19” x 28”, plus frame. I remember looking up proportions of the flag and how big the field should be during the design process.

I like that a lot. Great idea and great execution.
