A co-worker asked me if I could make him a clock with a few wood combos as a gift for someone. He really couldn’t decide if he wanted a clock or a box so we decided a clock with a semi hidden drawer in the base. He wanted to keep it simple and not too fussy.
The face is bookmatched figured black walnut with spalted maple plugs and the stem is spalted maple and padauk with a strip of wenge in the middle. The base is more spalted maple and padauk with figured black walnut. The drawer is African mahogany with a removable quartersawn lacewood divider. The bottom is lined with tan suede. I sanded the black paint off the aluminum hands and sanded those to 12k grit which gave them a polished look.
My apologies for the poor photos. Still trying to figure out this new camera. Anyway, thanks for looking and any comments/critiques are welcomed.

This is great! For me, this is the best part of woodworking – producing something that is original and creative (i.e. something you cannot buy in a store).

This piece is an inspiration.

@ Rich- That’s exactly what he said when he came to me. He wanted something he could not buy in a store. Thanks!
