This was my first construction/woodworking project. I hated my basement and was inspired by my father-in-law who just completed his basement remodel. He suggested this book: Taunton’s Remodeling a basement; and it took off from there. I gutted everything, put in egress windows, redid electrical, plumbing, sheetrock and finish work. Its handy to be employed at the fire department, because everyone has a side job, so I received some help. The built-in cabinets were fun to create; the bedroom behind the rec. room has a built-in book self and door to access the rear of the receiver and the wiring chase that runs to both cabinets and the TV. The under-the stairs cabinets were tricky but I am happy with the outcome. I should have planned for more DVD storage! It makes good use of otherwise useless space. All cabinets were constructed of Red Oak lumber and plywood. All was finished with a fruitwood stain and 3 coats of poly.

I like the way that cleans it all up. It looks professionally built.

Great job on your basement. I miss having a basement. You dont find many here on California. The storage areas are great!

Super nice job on the remodel. I like how you incorporated those pullouts for the movies, and storage, etc.
