The pen is made from Bloodwood, it is a gift for a someone who has help me keep my sanity during our companies transition pains of new software. Sometimes it feels as though we have shed a lot of blood together between desk top streaming, phone calls and emails. I will give her this pen today if she is in the office.

We are going to Des Moines today to pickup our son at the airport who is back for two weeks before going to Korea. The consulting firm she works for is just north of Des Moines. About a two hour drive from our home.

Thanks Sue for all your help!!

Hi Joel,

This is a really gorgeous pen. I am sure that Sue will appreciate it as I appreciate the story behind the post.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy your time with your son.

Nice job. Being new to pen turning, I appreciate seeing good examples. I like the subtle shape variation to the lower part.I might have to try that kind of shape. Mine have been pretty basic up to now. -SST

Hi, Joel.

I just wanted you (and everyone else here) to know how much I appreciate the pen – it’s gorgeous!

Actually, I think we both worked hard to keep each other sane. It was terrific to have such a talented resource helping to direct and prioritize the software implementation and to smooth out the rough edges.

Smoothing rough edges must be a specialty of yours – both in your job and woodworking! Have I told you lately how glad I am you work where you do?

Thanks, again.

Sue

Thanks everyone, again thanks Sue.

SST – I have only done about 20 pen and pencils, my son that is home on leave is where i got the shape of pen. It resembles one he had done in school and gave to me as a gift.

rikkor – i will sand the pens to 600 to 1200 grit, then use Hut wax sticks. First I light brown wax then the creamy white.
