This is my parents’ bathroom vanity and medicine cabinet – the face of the vanity is solid walnut with the remainder being made of oak plywood, and the medicine cabinet is solid walnut except the back, which is a piece of birch plywood.
This started by mistake… My parents remodeled their basement bathroom, which took over a year. They could never decide how to do it. When they finally got it to be ready, they needed a granite top. So we went to a shop and picked out some granite. My mother absolutely adored the piece of granite you see in the third picture, but dad said it wouldn’t match the basement bathroom (it would look like crap, in fact). So my mom said “fine, you are going remodel my first floor bathroom.” To which my dad turned to me and said “you are going to remodel my first floor bathroom.” I was out and about getting some padauk for my wife’s wedding box, and spotted some beautiful walnut boards, and decided that if mom can choose the granite, I can choose the wood. I picked up some from that shop, and some from a local timber farm – and my father could not be happier with the results.
What do you think, fellow lumber jocks? Did I choose the right wood? Would like some comments on the vanity top, as well.
