The reason I am showing this is because of the cute story to go with it. I really don’t know what kind of wood it is, but it was easy to work and carve. It is only about 7” long x 5/8” thick. We travel twice a year to Virginia to visit my son. He lives on the Northern neck near the Chesapeak bay area. We like to visit the water a good bit…. I am always scaning the area for driftwood, finding little of it. I always tell him to save and collect it for me in between visits. So last summer when he visited his home here, he brought me this twig, or part of a root. He did it as a joke on me. I never batted a eye lash, but grinned and bore it. When we visited him that Christmas he got the Woodspirit as a present. It flipped him out as he laughed with opening this present. I told him, “Don’t ever try to pull one over on your Dad, you will always come up on the short end”.

Hi Dave,
I firmly believe that the story is often as important as the project itself. This posting confirms that belief. I got a smile out of it (as I am sure you did too). Very interesting piece. And it is something that your son will treasure.
Thanks for the post.
