Three Band Saw Boxes

December, 2011—It was nice to have some free time over the holidays to do some woodworking. These are three different band saw boxes. Each has two drawers, and one has a secret drawer which you can see in the last three photos.

All drawers are lined on their bottoms with felt. All boxes are made of hard woods, and finished with tung oil. Two of the boxes have an arched (curved) front. The box with the secret drawer has a flat front. You can see the difference in the third photo (top view).

They are a fine bunch of boxes- but my fav has to be the highly figured fishy box- what is that fantastic wood?

Donna—the box on the right with the figured wood came from my nearest Woodcraft store. The label on it said “Satinwood” from Asia. I looked it up on the internet and found this link. Apparently Satinwood has lots of varieties and comes from all over the globe (no just Asia):

Art, your bandsaw boxes seem to be evolving nicely, as evidenced by this trio. I like the curved fronts and the hidden drawer. Nice work!

The satinwood is gorgeous, but I have to agree with Tony on the design for the box on the left- very dynamic. The curved fronts are super. Just think- the back could be curved- every surface can be curved- gawd but I love band saw boxes.
