My wife was complaining to me that she needed something to organize her sewing spools which up till now were kept in a plastic box, which was very frustrating having to paw through the pile of loose spools looking for the one she needed. I measured an available space on the wall beside her sewing machine and made this simple sewing spool rack for her. It’s nothing special or elaborate, just a rack that will hold 42 spools of thread, plus a small shelf on the bottom where she can put some bobbins, etc. She walked into my shop this afternoon just as I was finishing some sanding on the piece. She was very happy with her new rack. Made from yellow cedar. She wants me to put a couple of coats of clear spray lacquer on it just to protect the wood, which I will do.

Very nice – and a wonderful idea for a future product for me.

very nice and your wife is going to find it a very useful tool, like why have i not had this before..a few years ago i made some boxes with a slide on top, the inside was like what you did her, except these were boxes , i like the idea, but yours is more practical…its always out to see and very handy to get the thread very quickly…great job…maybe next time you can add a few inlays, some walnut dowel and…...and….....LOL..isnt just like a wood worker…always looking for ways to make something simple…more complicated…grizz

Very nice. My wife’s quite the avid sewer as well. Something like this is on my honey-build list…
