Here’s a Shut the Box game I made as a Christmas gift for my pop. The carcass is wenge and the lid is monkey pod and wenge. The finish is poly. This is my second box and the first time I’ve glued up a hardwood lid. There were a couple of spots on the wenge that didn’t accept any of the poly despite the fact that I sanded the heck out of it. Not sure how that happened but pop really appreciated the gift. Thanks for looking.

Looks great. Sometimes a conditioner can help with your finish issues.

Where do you get monkey pod? Is it expensive?

Jason. I got the wood for the project at Fost Lumber here in San Diego (it’s in Mira Mar). It was a cutoff in their hobby bin. The wood is expensive ($11.25 a bf for 4/4) but the piece I got was $12 for a .5”x6” approx. 6 ft long. Have some left. I’ve never seen it before but thought it looked nice next to the wenge (which was also in the hobby bin).
Have your say...
