I made this bowl out of a cottonwood burl from a local tree trimming. It was a gift for my random internet secret santa from the website reddit.com (it had nearly 40,000 participants this year). The turning didn’t take too long, but the sanding seemed to take forever. I always seem to get circular scratches and really slow material removal when sanding by hand… I may have to pursue some kind of bowl sanding system. The wood was pretty soft, so I did an early coat of thin poly before progressing grits. The figure was pretty neat for being cottonwood. Finished with several coats of a food-safe oil. The photos are pretty bad… I had to take them at night since I was shipping it the next morning, so the shininess doesn’t show well.
