When I saw this project plan in Wood Magazine a year ago, I decided that I had to make it…
Six months later I bought the clock works and intended to invest in Stained Glass tools to create a panel for it.
Well six months after that I (and finances) decided I would buy a tile for it.
The clock is made of Mahogany with Purple Heart accents. The tile is a handmade ceramic tile from Talavera Ceramics in Berkeley, CA. The tile has burgundy color it which is why I chose the Purple Heart for the accent (seen in second pic).
The construction is pretty straight forward. Creating the accents buttons was the most time consuming but well worth it.
The finish is one coat of clear shellac and one heavy coat of water based satin poly.
It ended up a Christmas present for my wife… she love’s i

Thanks for looking.

The purpleheart was a great choice. I would not have thought of it, but it is really cool and compliments the look. Very well done.

Great work I read this and thought the same thing. Still haven’t made it yet though. Well done!

The clock looks great. Good choice as well on the tile, it suits the G&G style perfectly.

Excellent clock and the tile insert is a nice touch. I have built a couple boxes with tile inlays, but hadn’t thought about using them for clocks. I am just now getting into clocks and have spent the last few weeks gathering the wood, clock parts and books with plans to get started in the next day or two.
