Hi everyone , Here is my latest birdhouse . It is made from 90 year old reclaimed barn wood.
It is really a baby compared to some of my larger houses. I have a order of 14 houses to build with this being the smallest and the largest will be 6 ft wide.
A friend of mine brought me 3 more truck loads of barn boards on the weekend so it looks like i will be busy for a while.

Another masterpiece from the master. Can’t say that I’ve noticed the metal roofs before, is that new..?

Nice! Another great home for the birds…I love the shot of your soiled workshop! You have orders for 14? Wow thats great! I wish I lived closer…you could contract me out to help with fulfillment!! I love the planed barn boards…it has a really nice look. What do you use to seal with? I am looking at this Olympic ultimate sealer…but I am not sure if it will disolve the glue I used to attach the shingles. That would suck! I have some leftovers so I will do some test panels, just to be safe! I could just play it safe and go with a water based sealer, but the oil based stuff penetrates way better. Plus this stuff is supposed to prevent graying for at least three years, and thats great taking in mind what I paid for the materiels I used!

Thank you everyone for all the nice comments.
In the past i was using left over steel from a barn i did about 7 years ago but that pile ran out last year so i have been buying cut offs from the lumber yard for about $2.00 a ft. I have built a few of them with wooden roofs but i like the steel better and it is much lighter.
David ,I use a sealer called Thompson’s water seal. It has a beautiful gold color for the first few weeks then it fades from the sun. It,s too bad because it looks great .

Wow ! I never saw large bird houses before. Looks great . You are lucky to find old barn boards, around these parts they are few and far between . Worth the weight in gold too .

Thanks Ageingwood. I have been lucky to get all my wood free. Sometimes i offer to build a birdhouse in exchange for a large amout of wood. I still have enough barn wood to build about 150 more houses. There are still lots of old barns and sheds in my area to get. i hope , lol

You even have your dog showing off in photo 1, nice.
The finish that I used on the Extreme Cape Cod I built
was Sikkens Cetol SRD a product meant for log homes.
I use it on cedar shingles that side my sunroom and it
holds up very well. They also make a marine product
that I have used on a teak trim on my boat.

Hi John,
As usual your work is for the birds!!!!!!
This is a nice birdhouse and it is really upscale if that is a metal roof I see on it.
Thanks for the post.

Thank you Gary and Scott . Thanks for that link Gary i will check that out. The Thompson’s works well to repel the water but like i said earlier the color fades in a few weeks and doesn’t look as appealing then.
Scott : I use regular barn steel for the roofs. It,s light weight and easy to use. It is also easy to change the color to whatever you want.
