These were my first box making project with hardwood… super fun and challenging… definitely not fast enough to produce these economically. Splined mitres with birch splines. The boxes are Lacewood with Purpleheart lid and White Oak handle, White Oak with Cherry lid and Cocobolo handle and Cocobolo with a Purpleheart lid and Cocobolo handle. Made a few mistakes so the bookmatch is not as tight as I would like but will do better next time.

So good to give hand made presents.

Those are nice looking boxes. I’m sure they were well received.

Simple, understated, and beautiful. The cocobolo/purpleheart combo is especially fetching.

the cocobolo purpleheart combo went to my dad (who got me started woodworking) and was my fave also… the best part was my stepmother commenting on the bookmatching.
