This Project was one that was inspired by my grandfather. He sent me a letter with four wheels and a picture of a fire truck with some dimennsions. In the letter he basically said that he is challenging me to build the fire truck off of the picture and thats it. So I did and when he came out to michigan for christmas, I asked for help on the final pieces that needed to be made and we stayed up super late working on this and it will forever be my favorite woodworking project that I made with my grandpa. So now I figure hey this would be good for the contest that just started.
It is made from cherry and maple and I spent probably 3 weeks on it with the final two days spent working with my grandfather. The finish is a basic tung oil and polyurethane finish. This was decided because my dad loves those two finishes.
So all in all hope I do some what good being my first contest and all and happy new year to everyone.

You and Grandpa did a fantastic job. I’m hoping that my Grandson will want to work in the shop with PawPaw – but I have a few more years first, he turns 3 on Feb. 7.

Great little truck!
Can’t tell you how many things my grandfather helped me make when I was young. He started me into woodworking.

Mighty fine firetruck and I’m sure the memories will last forever….but my question is…..why use a mattress for a background??? Other than that, it would have been perfect. Just my 2 cents.

I used the mattress because I had the fire truck in my room. I will porbably end up taking some different photos and posting them in place of these ones. Thanks for all of the comments guys.

definitely well done but you should have wiped all the dust off it first.
looks like it has been sitting on a shelf for awhile?

Well G’day “therookie”,
You’ve certainly done yourself proud on this fire truck, no plans and just a picture…magnificent.
Top marks to your grandfather for inspiring such workmanship, well to you both.
