My wife asked me to make some blanket chests for the kids back in April 2011. After reviewing several designs and sizes, we (She) settled on the raised panel style and oak for the material.
I found a guy, through craigslist, with a kings ransom worth of lumber already planed down to 7/8” and clear cut. I bought enough boards for 4 chests, (I made all 4, the 4th looks identical to the 3rd picture) and had them sitting inside my garage garage til I actually had time to start the project. (I hate how work gets in the way of “my time”.)
Never making anything of real value before I was a little apprehensive at first about this project. But with the help of so many people here on this site and the forums, I started feeling a little better about it each and every cut I made. Alot of the credit goes to the great minds and expertise so many other people here are willing to share. I made plenty of mistakes along the way, and had a nice pile of scrap wood to prove it.
I’m shocked at how well they turned out and I can’t wait to start another project that we (she) have to have.
