Here is my first attempt at a bowl made from a log. The tree came down at the beginning of spring and it was left over from the power line guys. I learned allot from this project and hope not to make some of the same mistakes. The big lesson that I learned was how fast chisels can go from sharp to dull. The bowl was turned green. The finish is a combination of lacquer and wax. By the way, can anyone tell me what type of wood it is? I was thinking it looked like Poplar, but it didn’t really have the green tint to it. I was also thinking it might be maple. Any ideas?

Agree with Jim. Experience is direct information obtained during turning. And how experienced is 90% of learning, I wish you a Happy New Year full of pleasant experiences in turning. Appears to be poplar wood, in my opinion.
