This box is made from fiddleback Blackbutt from Western Australia and was my first commission. The box is an open top storage box about 14”x 10” x 8”.

The piece of timber I had contained a lot of worm holes and a few knots that caused me a bit of trouble, but rather than filling these I left these as features of the timber. Finished with 3 coats of Danish Oil it came up a treat and I wasn’t sure that I wanted to sell it after all.

The joints on the edges are fantastic. Nice contrast. Those are dovetailed splines right?

Yes the dovetail splines are made of Jarrah to give a bit of contrast.
