The blanket chest from Season 1 of the New Yankee Workshop. Made this for my daughter for Christmas and got a huge hug when she realized what it was and that it was what I had been working on the past several weeks. My first “real” project other than shelves for the garage and an audio rack for my stereo equipment. Chose it first of all because I wanted to make something for my daughter and also because of the basic construction techniques involved. Was able to get some practical experience with tenons and floating panels, etc. Cedar lining on the bottom was tacked in with brads instead of using adhesive like on the show. Had to re-cut about 2 or 3 boards mostly due to not taking my time and thinking too far ahead. But knowing who it was for and needing to have it finished in time made me really concentrate and try to keep the flubs to a minimum. Finish is Minwax Ipswich Pine followed by 2 coats of clear satin polyurethane. Overall was a nice project for me and I’m looking forward to the next one. And of course there’s nothing like that hug on Christmas morning.
