I don’t have any suggestions, but have a couple questions.
First, what kind of finish did you use?
Second, is the back of the book shelf walnut plywood, solid walnut or something else?
I am about to start my first large project that is made of walnut, and just looking at all the possibilities.

These are terrific looking gifts and must have been very well received. Do you plan on putting any hardware on the buffet?
Where did you get that much Walnut from? Here in Florida I can’t readily find that anywhere, I wish I could come across that much Walnut.

I like the bookcase very much. Well Done!
Do you have planes for the bookcase? Thanks for sharing.

Lifesaver: The finish is a minwax special walnut with wipe on poly. The back is just cheap Lowes ply with ebony stain. Mike: I’m spoiled, I have a lot of lumber and just bought a bandsaw mill. One day my wife will have a heck of an auction..syeret: I generally followed the plans from the latest Wood mag.

DrB, thanks for the info. One of the projects I plan to make from walnut is an entertainment center, and a part of it will need a plywood back. I don’t know of any source for walnut ply that is within a hundred miles of here, so it is good to see that some cheap ply can be made to match the walnut that closely.
