What did I do on Christmas Eve? I BUILT A BENCH! Not fancy, just functional so I can get to putting the shop together. See my blog the first 6 entries documenting the shop build.
Yesterday I hit Lowe’s and got the lumber, MDF, glue and screws for the first two of three benches I need to build. The first bench is now built and the pictures are below as well as posting my very first project!
The purpose of this bench is to be determined until I put together the other two benches. Once I have them all built I can place them in various positions to see what will work the best in my long, narrow shop area (24’x10’ -a one-car garage space). I’ll be putting different machines on them and working out power distribution, dust collection routes, etc. before I commit to a specific configuration of the shop. Even then, I am quite sure I will rearrange as my needs and desires change.
One fortunate side benefit of having the RaceDeck tiles – they are exactly 1 foot by 1 foot, and they’re perfectly square – when building a bench all alone, any advantage you can get – take it. These tiles were great for aligning the ends when I was getting ready to put in the 7 foot long spanners.
final dimensions: 7’=3” (L) x 35-1/2” (H) x 24” (D)
Alright, I gotta get to bed before SANTA arrives – he’ll be pissed if he finds me up waiting for him!!
