I found some maple boards in a firewood pile and thought I’d try my hand at making a table.
I took a guess at the dimensions and drew up some simple plans.
Here is the end result. 40 wide by 12 1/2 deep. The legs 1 1/2 square are tapered on two faces to 3/4.
I used a shop built tapering jig similar to the one by Fine Woodworking mag. Works great. Repeatable results and my hands are as far away from the blade as possible.

Now that is just danged pretty! Love the simple lines – works perfect with the wood. The knot is lovely.

This is a very nice table. I like the design of the piece. And to think that this appeared destined for the fireplace!!!! Instead of a few minutes of heat this wood is a family heirloom.
Very nice post.

Good looking table – looks much better now than it would have after hitting the fireplace.
