This is a Cherry Hutch I made for my friends wife. She needed a display for her hair products at her salon. I’m not a big fan of the color but it needed to match the other furniture in the salon and this was as close as I could get it. This was my first frame and panel project. It was made with mortise and tenon joinery. The only screws I used were to hold the hinges, figure-8 fasteners, door catches and door knobs. I routed recesses in the bottom of the shelves to hide the shelf pins when they are in place. It has Min-Wax red oak stain and Min-Wax Satin polyurethane finish.

I really like it. I’m on my first cherry project and it’s a beast to finish. I decided no stain and let mother nature take care of the color over time.

Don I agree letting it change with time was me preference and I tried hard to sell her on the idea, but she wanted it to fit in with the other things right away. I used wood conditioner and it still ended up pretty splotchy with this color (Red Oak) I stained some mission style tables that I made as one of my first projects and didn’t have any problem with splotches and I also didn’t use wood conditioner that time so go figure.
