This is an oak bed that was designed by a customer. They took a standard flat panel headboard look and stretched it out to 8” deep. They wanted the middle grid to become a small bookshelf with LED lights. They wanted to leave the grid above the shelves flat. I came up with the idea to use the wasted space as a small hidden compartment. In the design the compartment was already there, I just needed to add a lift up top.
It is similar to the Gun bed built a few months ago:
The drawer unit was a little different then my norm. It features 4 drawers on each side, on a single row. I made them look inset by adding the side rail on top, a base molding and dividers in between the drawers. The drawer boxes were dovetailed. Not shown in pictures (this is because I didn’t even have them at the time of the picture. My supplier dropped the ball).
I love the one piece look on how it turned out.
The customer sent me a carving to add to the foot board. They wanted it recessed, but how the carving was made made it almost impossible. With the trim framing around the foot board kept if from looking like it was just stuck on there.
Along the wall you see 4 doors. There are matching entry way double doors (2 sets) to match the bed.
Here are some building pictures:
