This is a scrollwork image of my father’s beloved dog, Buddy; who is still alive and doing well. This dog has been a wonderful and very loyal dog for my father for the past few years. I thought this would be a great Christmas gift, so I took a shot at it. My inspiration to take on this project was from seeing the great works of our LJ buddy KnotCurser.
This is very first time I have done this and I haven’t been on a scroll saw in decades so taking this on was a little challenging, not bad though. I cannot go further without thanking KnotCurser. A couple of months ago, when I first thought about doing this, I contacted KnotCurser about what blades to use and he told me the best ones and where to get them. Just before starting this the other day I had some trouble with the proper cutting layout due to the fact that this dog is actually black and white. Sure enough, KnotCurser came through with some help on some transitions from the photo to the cutting image. So, a BIG NOD AND SHOUT OUT TO KnotCurser! Thanks, Bob!
I put this in a frame knowing my father would like it best that way. It is all done in red oak with black felt for the background. The detail on the frame was done by cutting a shallow rabbet then applying a black dye to it. Everything was finished with a wipe-on poly. Thanks for viewing.
P.S. Buddy is a Decker Terrier, like a Rat Terrier but a little taller.

This looks fantastic!
I may have given a little help and tips, but you did all the cutting! I think this is a HUGE success and I know your father will love it.
I would suggest you use that last picture spot and maybe post the original pic of Buddy…..... That way we can all see how close to the original you wound up. :-)
Keep up the scrolling – I think you have the knack.

Thanks for the kind words Jim and Bob. I hope I do have the knack and not just beginners luck. It took me a few hours to do. The scroll saw I used was an old primitive one which took a little longer to set-up and be able to go from opening to opening to make the cuts. Definitely took patience.
I have a few ideas for some more work as do my kids, LOL.
I will try to make time to post the original picture and the cutting layout to show the progression from start to finish.
Thanks again for the kind words.
