This project was inspired by a similar project that I remembered seeing in a recent holiday scrollsaw project magazine. The original used a similar font for the background “BE” and used a different foreground word. I changed it to “Merry” to make it more festive. The materials are 1/2 inch bloodwood and 1/4 inch yellow heart. I choose spray lacquer as the finish.

This is a nice looking project.

That came out excellent. The woods work perfect together.

Very nice! Words and letters are some of the most difficult to cut. Well done.

I came across this project a while ago, and now am on vacation! I am looking to improve my scroll saw skills, and I am curious about templates for the lettering. Do you draw it by hand or do you have a template? If so, where can I get my hands on templates for lettering?
Thanks for sharing, they look great!

for nittanylion:
Lettering templates are available at They have 18 fonts to choose from , most in a couple of sizes. I usually use my computer and print them out in “outline” format which makes them easier to cut. Printing them out in red also helps you to see them better.
