Vertical box

Built a series of boxes for holiday gifts. They were practice boxes in some ways – my first half-blind dovetails on the drawer fronts and through dovetails elsewhere. All hand cut on the drawers. I used my Leigh Jig for the carcase dovetails. I need practice with that too. Zebrawood fronts, Walnut carcass, Ash legs and wenge pulls. Oil finish. I made the pulls in the shape of a handlebar mustache in memory of this summer’s hair growth (now, sadly, gone). I pinned the pulls with short lengths of solid brass, which I left proud of the pulls in front. I thought this one turned out well – I like the fact that it looks cartoonish. My one issue with it is the top – I should have kept the column tops extended over the walnut top, thinned the top and minimized the thickness of the back crest on the top of the box.
