Multi-Wood Kitchen Table Multi-Wood Kitchen Table No-picture-s Click the pictures to enlarge them

This table is made from strips of hardwood glued face to face, so all the edges are facing up. It makes the table look like a big butcher block cutting board. The base is made of maple and painted black.

The table is 48 inches long, 36 inches wide, and 30 inches tall.

Jeff,

This is a very interesting design. Normally I would never paint wood but in this case the top is so “busy” that the painted legs create a balance. Nicely done.

By the way out of curiosity was this done by choice or as a way of using saved cutoffs?

Thanks for the post.

A brilliant idea to use scrap pieces of different wood to make a relatively big table. Workmanship is perfect. How many types of wood are used and what are their names? The design of the base is simple and the black paint suits well.

In the top there are 6 different types of wood: zebra wood, cherry, ash, white oak, red oak, and maple.

That is a beautiful job. Did you laminate in stages, or all at once?

i glued the table up in to halves. i then planed the halves down, jointed the edges, picked the best seam, and glued the 2 halved together. i found it easier to do it it in 2 halves because once you start tightening the clamps all of the boards start sliding up and down, so with limited time to bang all the pieces down flat, its better to do half at a time.

Sometime’s that simple idea is the one that often passes us by. We often think about all of the frills that we can throw in, but this is a prime example of how a simple design turns out great. Love it. It has such an atistic look to it, and I bet that everyone that comes into your house comments on it as well. Great job, I’d love to see more.

That is an impressive looking table. I have to agree with Scott that while I don’t normally like the thought of painting wood, it really works in this example.

That’s a great looking table, and a good way to use up some lovely scraps!
