This will be a Christmas present for my brother and his wife who just bought their first home in Seattle. The padauk is 1/8” thick, edge-glued together from three pieces after cutting the skyline. I used the Frasier logo as my reference. A small strip of red oak on the back gives something for the hooks to screw into and something to mount hanging hardware on.
I originally had finished the padauk with a few coats of wipe on poly, but when waxed and buffed it became evident that the thin coat of poly had not cured, even after a week of drying. I think this has to do with padauk’s natural oiliness. So, stripped off the poly and applied the wax by itself and it looks great.

That’s cool, congratulations to your brother and his wife … I’m kinda partial to your project being that i live in the Seattle area.
Have your say...
