I took an afternoon to make three French Rolling Pins in Cherry for Christmas gifts. My list is shrinking! Still more to go. These are 15” to 16” long, the limit of my short-bed bowl lathe, darn it. Isn’t it the truth, that you think you’ll never want another option than the great new machine you have, and one day… well, you need more options. Oh well, 16” ought to be enough to roll out dough. If it isn’t, I’ll hear about it from my girls.

Nice, Barb! I think 16” is quite enough. My marble rolling pin is only 12” and I haven’t had any problems yet (and I have had it for about 15 years!)

These make nice gifts and I am sure they will love them. Good to see you checking things off, too!

Merry Christmas! Sheila

Hi Jim- Yeah, I was thinking that. With all three families here for Christmas, it may get lively when the wives open these. And Thanks, Sheila!

These are spot on Barb, cherry was the perfect choice, 16” is fine that gives you 12” to work with & a couple each end to play with, they wikll go down well :))

Hi Barb, I just measured my bought rolling pin and it is 17”, 1-2” doesnt make any difference. Those are beautiful gifts and made by Mom is so special, the husbands will be raising eyebrows.

Thanks for sharing all your hard work Barb.

Beautiful, I do a lot of baking and other attempts at food manufacture and I would love to have one of those!

I do have a question though:

A few years ago I gave my wife a new rolling pin for Christmas and she got really mad at me.

I never could figure out why, because she didn’t get mad when she opened the washing machine gift or the new mop, or the package of Dexi-trim

I guess ya just never know about them thar wimmenfolk!

Michel, those came out about 1-1/2” to 1-3/4” in diameter at center, then tapered to the ends.
