Just completed this job and delivered it yesterday. It is a Christmas gift for the man’s wife. Box is approximately 11”L x 4”H x 6”D. Outside is cherry with walnut keys and panel. Had to build several jigs for this project. My tablesaw doesn’t adjust well for angles, so made a jig for sawing the corners and also made a jig to saw the key slots.

Finish is spray lacquer. Some parts, notably the top and bottom panels and inside areas were finished before assembly to aid in rubbing out and to keep finish showing when the panel expands and contracts.

Cool splining. Like the insert. Very well done. You’ve got skills!

That box has a great look, good combination of wood and a great finish. Splines and mitres look perfect, just a super job overall.

Kevin,
Attractive box, tasteful detailing, and well made. I like it.

Kevin, this is a beautiful traditional box and you did a fine job on it.
