I decided to try my hands at some joinery, so I made a box to keep the spare drill bits that normally rattle about in a workshop drawer. It’s made from a scrap of leftover pine from a previous shelving project, the top and bottom are bits of fiberboard from an old IKEA cupboard. Finished with a couple of coats of poly.
The project was educational. I learned a number of things, among them
- how not to set up your router table for routing joints
- tearout and why it sucks
- why it’s not a good idea to rout into wood knots. (ouch.)
- use your glasses when you apply finish (doh).
Far from perfect, but plenty good enough for workshop use.
