This was another box given to my dad as a Christmas present. This box went a little better than the last one, but it was once again the hinge that got me. There is actually a lot of layers in the lid of this box and it was not at all intentional. I kept making mistakes and then gluing on more wood to fix it. I eventually (yes a lot of mistakes) got the idea to use the contrasting wood and it actually turned out for the better I think. For example, the underside of the lid was not originally going to have the Brazilian cherry until I realized I had cut the lip too deep. There’s about 5 layers of wood on the back side of the lid…. yes 5 layers as in measure once cut 5 times.

At first I did not see the corner pieces of wood, but I still liked it. That is a nice box top and I will probably pay you the compliment of trying something similar!! Good wood choice and design. I just sold some boxes to some fellow school people to keep photos in and on display. They get little books of 4×6 photos. This would make a great top for those.
