This is my original design and creation it was also my most thought out, difficult and toughest build yet. In order to keep the border in line I had to leave the edges as they were only the frame and drawer cavities were rounded and smoothed out, this box was made out of Spalted Hackberry and has 6 drawers in a shadow box form.

I LOVE THIS BOX. This is wonderful. I’m from Michigan, another not-exactly-rectangular state, and this gives me some ideas for making a Great Lakes State knock off.

Another good job, Blackie. Kool that is is made from one piece of wood. I made a Texas box out of mesquite and it was practically a failure. The mesquite had so many voids. . . I tried to carve beyond them. . . made a Grand Canyon. . . no Grand Canyon in Texas.
Seeing your super neat designs makes me want to go back to the drawing board.
In this box the negative spaces would be a neat place to put some miniature cowboy apparatus- spurs/horse/longhorn/etc.

Thanks Donna
Nothing speaks louder then Texas as Mesquite though Mesquite is one of the most hardest of the hard woods and very hard on knifes and blades of all kinds including chain caw blades so I try to avoid using it, now hackberry is surprisingly soft and I think it does a good job for speaking Texas. :)
Great ideas on the empty spaces.
