This is the first piece of furniture that I have made, since high school. I made the toddler bed for my two year old son. The wood is walnut and the finish is 3 or 4 coats of a simple wipe-on poly.
I made this bed, while we still lived in Cincinnati, OH. This bed was made while I was taking a woodworking course at the local tech school, Great Oaks through their “Adult and Continuing Education” program. It was a great class and the instructor was very helpful. I would recommend this class to anyone in the greater Cincinnati area who doesn’t have access to a shop or anyone who is new to woodworking or needs a refresher course.

From the looks of this bed you better keep doing wood working. You made a beautiful bed for your boy. I made a bedroom set for my daughter 16 years ago and now one of her kids uses it today.

Really nice. The finish is nice, the bed is sturdy looking – should be around for quite some time.

Jimp,
This is a very nice bed and it looks very well built. I am sure that its construction should survive all the abuse a two year old can throw at it. Walnut is such a beautiful wood with which to work. Your finish looks good.
Thanks for sharing.

Looks great, Jim. My first thought, however, was about my 2-year old who’s still happily in her crib. ..and how much longer I have to work on finishing my shop before I have to build her something similar.
My second thought was how it’s gonna feel to see it covered with stickers like I did to my childhood bed! :)
I really like the walnut. Thanks for sharing!

Good job. That is a fine looking bed a kid (and a builder) can be proud of.

I would like to thank everyone for their cared words. So far, the bed is holding up well to our 2 year old and he hasn’t covered it with stickers!!!

Nice looking bed graet job. It’s nice to be able to take classes that get you started in woodworking.
