I was debating what to get my grandmother for Christmas this year when my Mom told me she had picked out a table at London Drugs…RIGHT like I’m gonna do that, so I took the basic proportions and built a table for her. I went with red oak to match the rest of her furniture and was really happy with the results, my wife especially likes and it wanted to keep it. Here is where the story gets funny…I looked at the wrong thing, turns out she was wanting some wooden TV trays…OOPS, oh well to life came a nice new table. Dowels for the lower stretchers, Biscuit Joints up top…finally got my new saw time to start cutting some mortise and tenons.

This is a nice table, Mike. The dowels add an interesting detail to the piece. I am sure your grandmother appreciated it because this was something than you created and, as such, it is a gift from the heart.
To atone for your mistake why not make her some TV trays to go with the table. Just beg your wife for some more shop time. Since this is for your grandmother she could hardly object.
Thanks for the post.

Thanks all…I’m not really a big work from other people’s plans sorta guy…I’m sure it limits me in what I do a fair bit BUT I have fun creating things from my head rather then other peoples designs. Now if only I had a jointer so I can glue together tops that don’t have GIANT gaps in them I Could retire the ply wood.
