This is a baseball bat rack and shelf for little league trophies I made for my grandson. I got the idea for the style with the ball glove from a similar one I saw on ebay that was painted rather than stained. I added the pegs for cap and/or batting helmet. The bat hangs down in the center of the shelf.
I used maple for the shelf and pine for the glove and ball holder. I wanted to add a bit of contrast, especially for the glove, so I stained the pegs, ball holder & glove with a black walnut stain.
The ball holder and glove set in place over removable dowel pins.
I used a Stanley 45 combination plane to form the edge beading. I opted for a rubbed finish using equal parts of boiled linseed oil, turpentine, and varnish.

That’s pretty cool. I will keep that in mind for my nephew,

That is a wonderful project. At his age your grandson is young enough to still be enamored with the game. I was fortunate enough to have coached baseball for almost 20 years, spending the majority of my time in Little League. This age group was always my favorite since they loved to play the game and were enthusiastic about the sport (and had not yet developed attitudes, although for most of them this comes later). At this age I found that trophies and other memorabilia, such as the project you built, were much more important to them than the older guys. I am sure that your grandson will treasure this always.
Nice project.

Very clever design. Wish I had one like it when I was a kid.
