Kitchen Cabinets in Cherry

Project by tomfidgen posted 630 days ago 1005 views 3 times favorited 12 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I was recently commissioned to build a set of kitchen cabinets for an older Arts and Crafts style Bungalow. I knew this would be a great opportunity to try a traditional cabinet design while incorporating some modern conveniences. The main cabinet boxes are made from 3/4” Cherry ply, dadoed and rabbetted together with glue and pocket screws. The face frames are all solid 1” Cherry. The doors are frame and panel construction, the drawers are all traditional style, half blind dovetails on the front and through dovetails at the back. I’ll be using the Tried and True, Oil/Varnish mixture for a finish that’s durable and completely free of any harmful toxins making it perfect for a kitchen application. These picstures show where I’m at so far in the construction. Cheers.

Tom,

This is looking real good. Oil with a varnish topcoat is my favorite finish for cherry. I am looking forward to seeing the finished cabinets.
