Christmas present for my 7yr old son who is really in to beyblades. They are tops that u launch and then they “battle”. I dont have any tools to create their traditional bowl style battle area, so this is what i came up with. Random angles and widths from scrap material from work. Finished with water based gloss poly. Im still goin to put a couple more coats of poly on it to really gloss it up real good.

Looks great to me! Ingenuity is the best tool anyway and it looks like it served you well on this one. Hope it works great for your son.

Don’t let my kids see that!

I have noticed that the beyblades will actually dig into the finish on our floors, so more coats of poly is better!

Great idea, I never thought to try something that wasn’t a bowl shape. Now the question is do I have enough time to add that to my Christmas shop list.

Haha. I was saying that until my wife and kids rose up in mutiny against all the time I was spending in the shop. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that just running around the yard is worth more than anything you can make them. So I am on a strict shop time budget. LOL. It would make a great project for me and him to do together.

Looks way better than the plastic ones I have limited spare time and the trade off of making something vs spending time with the kids. I try to involve them in either helping me do something in the shop or have a little project of their own….more often than not a street hockey game or bike ride with dad is what they really want.

It was great christmas morning, the battle arena was the first thing he wanted to play with. My son and I had epic battles for a good solid hour.

I usually dont get any workshop time till after everyone is in bed. So a couple hours here and there add up i guess. I have plans in the near future to make a couple small projects that he can help me assemble. Time to get that kid using a screw gun and a drill :)
