Live edge cutting board

I milled up a batch of fruitwood last year and it has been air drying since. Fruitwood is very difficult to dry well even if its stacked/stickered properly, end sealed and kept out of the sun. Virtually all of my boards cracked and warped. There was still a bit of useable wood in each peice so I cut them out, jointed and planed them up.

I took some of the apricot pieces along with a couple of strips of birch to make this cutting board. I really liked the apricot wood. Its very colorful with yellows, oranges, and reddish browns. Put some BLO on and the colors really stand out. The wood itself is perfect for a cutting board, very tight grained and heavy. I filled a partial knot with some epoxy and that worked quite well. All in all I am quite happy with the result and the Mrs. loves the live edge and the color to contrast with her dark countertops.

Cheers
