This table was made a few months ago. It made from Bakdal for top and ebony for butterfly inlaying.
The name of wood ‘Bakdal’ is a kind of birch, native wood in Korea. It has very densed grain and so hard surface. I guess ‘Bakdal’ is harder than hard maple or mahogany. So my ancestor used to make a wooden sword with this wood.
I’m using this for decoration table under wall mounted PDP TV.
Finishing / 4 times of oil and waxing

love the lines, how did you cut out the inlays with out splitting the wood?

Great contrast with the woods and what a great way to use the whole slab…
What do the legs or base look like?

Thanks for the post Libris. This is a really nice piece and I enjoy the natural lines. The ebony keys add a nice contrast to the piece. The finish looks good as well.

I cut the inlays with beveled table saw blade, first cut the bevel up to valley and turn over the block, and there oposite direction, finally rip slice the dovetail block. You can see that method from ‘woodworks’ video of David Marks.
Legs are very simple and the top is closed to ground about 4 inch. One side, I just attatch square block and the other side use tapered small block. Legs touch the ground only 3-points and no diagonal rolling.

The lines on your butterfly keys are so clean, it looks like it came off a laser printer. Great job.

Very nice. The contrasts of the wood and the finish really bring this piece out.
