I have a LOT of friends from Texas. It’s interesting they’d even be willing to be associated with a Yankee such as myself. Anyway, a guy I work with asked my for a checker board in the shape of Texas a while back and this is how it turned out. The paduak was a perfect color for Texas I thought. Paduak and Hard Maple finished with butcher block oil. Figured I’d share this one with my Texan friends on here!!

I initially created an oversize squarish checker board, cut out the “main body” of Texas then glued the cutoffs on for the panhandle and bottom. I got lucky and it worked well and I was left with little waste.

I think it looks pretty good. You did a really nice job on it.

Ok brother, you know me…when I saw that I heard the Texas state song start playing in some vacant corner of my mind. I am very impressed and continue at this moment to wonder why we never got in to this together while you were here.

As you know, Texas pride is something we’re very proud of. And you should be proud of this project.
