“Big Trucks” My nephew and his beautiful wife have started a tradition with their small sons. They have to tell the Rain Deer what they want for Christmas. Standing in front of the Rain deer’s image, Mom ask them what they wanted for Christmas, the younger son said “Big Trucks”. As luck would have it I had started on these. I got the pattern from a South Carolina wood workers group. The plan was not detailed so I improvised quite a bit. I made four trucks to have a couple to place in a local shop.

The trucks are made of several woods, Red Oak, Pine, Poplar, Eastern Red Cedar, Cherry, Walnut, Black Ash, Maple and Birch. After sanding, I spray painted the bright colors that will please young truckers. The smallest parts, lights wheels and axels I purchased. The wheels are stained black and finished with a clear coat.

The first one was sold before the paint dried. It is a simple little project intended for lots of hard play and not like the amazingly detailed trucks built for display. I hope they will be a big hit Christmas morning.

hey roz, or is it santa, love the trucks..of coarse my favorites here are the natural ones…i think the beauty of the wood helps make the toy…but some like painted …whichever it goes, there a cool and fun looking truck, and your doing a fine job on them…

Thanks LJ’s, I have been seeing cars and trucks posted by other LJ’s each Christmas and have always wanted to try my hand at it. Yeah, peteg, your right I guess I am a big kid. Grizz, I am with you, I sort of wanted the natural one for me but someone wanted to buy it… it went.

G’Day Terry, They are fine looking tip trucks which you’ve built.
The design/plan looks simple and strong, well done.
The paintwork is tops though personally I love the natural timber colours.
