I was doing some hexagonal boxes, but wanted to do something unique. It struck me I could add crenelations to the top and get a castle tower. I picked mara for the wood on this one since it had such a nice windswept look. It’s about 8” tall, and the sides are 3”. Finished in Tung oil. I carved a set of doors where the drawer pulls out and added some pulls that look like door pulls.

Now this is nice. I love that piece of wood and my kids would love building some of these. I may steal your idea, I hope you don’t mind. I have spent so much time in the shop without them doing Christmas orders, they have demanded shop time with me and cool projects to build or there will be REBELLION. lol
Thanks for sharing such a cool project with us. Now I really can’t wait to get them in the shop again.

The trick to do the crenelations is to treat them like box joints. Cut them out the same way.

Kirk,
Hey, hey, hey. I like this box. Creative design and execution. One of the most creative boxes I’ve seen in quite a while. I may be tempted to steal this idea one day. Well done.

Somewhere in the bowels of the computer are the plans on how to make one. I’ll try and find them and post them along side. I’m tickled at the response on it.
