I conned my mother into letting me take woodshop in High School as a Senior by telling her I would make her a hutch for her good dishes that I remmeber always sitting in a box. This was basically my first major project. It has a catch in the top shelves for plates to stand on edge, the top and bottom come apart at the knick knack shelf. the bottom has a drawer and the cabinet doors below that reveal 2 shelves on the inside. It is made of Bich ply and natural birch for the edging, doors and drawer front. I desinged it to fit in the type cars we had at the time so it will really fit in an SUV, well in 2 – each part fit in one. I took it to the Annual Competion that year and got first prize and top category.

Good job! Yes, lucky mom.

My wife is impatiently waiting for her hutch, but I am having too much fun doing making other projects.

Now the Hutch belongs to my wife, it is now in our dining room. Mom moved south to San Antonio and decided it was time that she send it back to me as a keep sake I suppose. When I got married in 2007, I gave to my Sweetheart.

Nice work on the hutch. Welcome to Lumberjocks.
