This was one of them fun beds. It is a design from a customer. They had one of our baseball beds on order and wanted us to create another theme type bed. This is a combination painting and bed. I am not an artist so we brought in a local artist to do the painting. We built the bed and left the horse part just a square panel of MDF on the back and sides. The artist came in and traced the overall horse shape. We cut it out along with some detailed pieces to give it some depth. The jaw, front quarter and back quarter were again cut out and stacked for a three dimensional look.
We finished all the base colors. The horses were a brown, the fence and main bed parts were left natural. The MDF clear coated gave a great background color for the flowers.
The artist then came back in and finished the detail work in acrylics. We let dry for a couple days and then clear coated it.
This custom kid's bed creation was completed in November 2011.

I posed this on our web site too. http://poggyskids.com/horsebed.htm I usually try to price things out, but wasn’t sure if the cost to get the artist will always be the same, so I had them contact us for pricing. You think this is a good idea or should I always have a price for customers.

Also I thought about naming the horses. I need some woodworking names like Saw and Dust or Black and Decker. Give me some ideas.
