This is a coffee table for our living room.
I got my wood from an online lumber yard. It was really cool having it delivered to my door.
I choose Purpleheart, hickory and walnut. It’s a pretty simple design. I just cut the pieces and clued them together. Then I added a board of red oak on the bottom for added strength. It probably didn’t need it but it made me feel better in case someone falls on the table someday.
I’m still a beginner so I’m trying to do one new technique with each new piece. For this one, it was gluing. I bought new clamps and pipes and had a great time gluing something so big and heavy.

That is very cool!
I have never seen this design in a coffee table before – very unique way to display great species of wood.
I also like the differing lengths (widths?) of wood used. It creates a more interesting table overall.
The simple legs also agree with the overall design.
I think I also would have ran a piece of solid lumber on the bottom – just in case. :-)
Great Job!!!

Beautifully done. Can you tell us what online lumber yard? The wood looks great!
Thanks,

They really don’t give away their lumber on that site, do they? Between the initial high price and shipping, you’d be better off to look at Craigslist or a local lumber yard for your next project.
