Project Information

More projects from trimming my cherry tree a couple years ago. My son loves Pokemon cards, I love it when they are not all over the house…here is my attempt at a solution. Notice it is empty :)
I made it before I knew how easy and useful splines are. Next time I need to trim my flowering plum I will dry out some spline stock.
If you haven't milled your own boards from firewood it is easy and fun. I cut strips on the bandsaw after keeping the logs in the garage for a couple of months. I stickered the boards on pieces of ripped plywood for a year. Every once in a while I flip the boards when I am bored. It has been great. I also use my maple trimmings for turning blanks. Just sit em in the dry garage for a year, drawknife off the bark and throw it on the lathe.
I am a beginner woodworker, but now I want to lower my cholesterol so I have years and years to practice.

Very nice! how long did you let the cherry dry before using it? I have my eye on a cherry tree that needs to be removed.

thank you for sharing!

ok i like the box but hate Pokemon so i wont hold that against you since your trying to hide those awful cards

You did a nice job and it looks square for a beginner that can be very hard to accomplish I would have liked you to have used a box joint or dovetails instead of but joints I don't know how you did the joinery but briskets or dowels floating tenons ar something to keep your hard work together would be good. I also don't see a finish on the inside so all in all a great job for a beginner but I am giving you 4out of 5 stars for choice of joinery and lack of finish if i am wrong pm me and ill change my ranking but four stars is real good IMHO also i love the lid it is great
