I have always loved the Roycroft Trapaziod Bookcases. I planned on building something that was this shape, since I wanted to challenge myself in both designing and making a number of angled and keyed though tenon joints. I also wanted to do a number of bookmatched panels, since I had just purchased a new bandsaw.
60+ mortise and tenon joints and 21 panels later I and built this cherry bookcase with walnut keys and accents. This project was constructed entirely out of solid wood, with no metal fasteners. I bookmatched the back panel first and the sapwood shape inspired the shapes of the walnut panels I include in in the sides. I also included 12 slots on the bottom to hold wine bottles, since that was one of my wife’s requests.
I finished the case with wipe on poly and wax.
Thanks for looking!

Really nice. The addition of the wine storage is a great idea.

This is a beautiful bookcase. You can’t go wrong by using cherry in my opinion. This one has a nice design to it and you did a wonderful job of crafting the piece.
Thanks for the post.

Excellent work! Be sure to give it an open space to live – the sides and back are as beautiful (or more) than the front!
